PULMONARY EMBOLISM

Pulmonary Embolism in simple language means blockage in the blood vessel of the lungs due to blood clot. When the blood clots in the vein and does not move then it is called thrombus whereas if it travels to other part of the body then thenit is called embolus. In most of the cases these blood clots are formed in one of the deep veins and travels to the lungs. The most common cause for such situation is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Due to the lack of blood supply and low oxygen levels part of the lungs may get damaged. Untreated or undiagnosed pulmonary embolism can be fatal and may lead to sudden death as well.

Formation of blood clots can be due to various reasons that include:
