The patient can go home immediately after the test by walking or driving. Ultrasound of the abdomen requires the patient to be in fasting for 5-6 hours. For kidney ultrasound or lower abdomen ultrasound, the patient has to stop urinating for 1-2 hours before the test and should drink 3-4 glasses of water. For most of the other ultrasounds, no specific preparation is required. In transvaginal ultrasound, a thin probe is inserted in the vaginal canal. In Trans-rectal ultrasound, a thin probe is inserted in the rectum.
