India offers best in class treatment for all heart diseases. Our hospitals in India have the most advanced Cath Labs and Cardiac Operation Theatres. Our teams of Cardiologists, CTVS Surgeons, Cardiac Anesthetists and other supporting staff are considered as the best in the world.
Every Year more than 3,00,000 cardiac procedures are done in India which includes stenting for opening of the blocked arteries. For patients suffering from Triple Vessel Disease we are doing more than 1,00,000 Heart Bypass surgeries. Other heart surgeries like Valve Repair, ASD/VSD Closure, TAVI, ICD device implantation are also done routinely at our centres.
Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) is the most commonly done heart procedure in India. More than 3,00,000 such procedures are done every year at more than 1400 Cath Labs in the country. PTCA is a minimal invasive procedure to open up the blocked arteries and restoring the supply of blood to the heart.
In this procedure, the cardiologist will insert a guidewire through the femoral artery (thigh) or the radial artery (wrist). This wire will reach the coronary arteries and a balloon might be used to dilate the blocked artery. A drug eluting stent (DES) or a metallic stent is placed inside the artery at the point of blockage. The procedure is completed in 15-20 minutes and the patient goes home in 2-3 days time.
The cost of Coronary Angioplasty is in the range of Rs. 1 - 1.5 Lacs equivalent to USD 1500 - 2000 plus the cost of stent which is in the range of USD 500 - 600 for each stent. Most of the patients would require 1-2 stents to open up the blockages in 1-2 arteries. If the patient has blockages in 3 or more vessels then Heart Bypass Surgery can be an option. This procedure is done on a Cath Lab. Good quality Cath Labs from GE, Philips and Siemens cost in the range of USD 4,00,00 - 5,00,000.
PTCA is done by Interventional Cardiologists. These are doctors who have done MBBS, MD (Medicine) and DM (Cardiology). Not all doctors holding DM (Cardiology) degree are good at doing PTCA. Doctors who have more than 10 years of experience in doing interventional procedures are best suited to do the procedure successfully.
